PACKAGES
& SCHEDULES

All of our packages are day treks from the lodge, meaning that you overnight in comfort at the lodge each night. These packages are NOT camping packages.

To give you a little guidance & show you some of what we offer at LML, we have prepared a series of trekking packages & schedules, tailored for different lengths of stay. This should help to maximise your experience of the Cordillera Blanca.

Our packages are designed for the independent traveller, a far cry from package tours, leaving you to enjoy the freedom and beauty of the area. The location of our hotel is unrivaled, giving us unprecedented access to the Huascarán National Park. Thus, we are able to provide our clients with more time out exploring the wonders of the park, rather than the usual 6 hours wasted on tour buses, getting to the national park and the irritation of waiting for, or being rushed by the rest of the group.

This is how adventure is meant to be.

TREKKING SAFELY AT LML

Llanganuco Mountain Lodge is strategically positioned right on the edge of the Huascaran National Park & boasts over 10 different day & multi-day treks. If you are attempting to summit a high-altitude mountain, we tailor acclimatisation schedules based on individual requirements.

To safely & properly enjoy the activities that we offer, it is imperative to take into consideration the following safety procedures, to ensure you are sufficiently prepared & avoid any health risks or injury. We take this very seriously & so should you.

ACCLIMATISATION ADVICE

  • If arriving directly from sea level & have not been to altitude in the last 2 weeks, it is recommended that you do very light or no physical exercise on your first day.
  • However, if on your first day you feel the need to explore, the Ruins & Lake of Keushu is a great option. It requires little effort, is very close to the hotel & is a very beautiful place to walk & relax after your arrival.
  • If you have ever experienced problems at altitude before or have a relevant medical condition, we strongly recommend that you seek medical advice before arriving.
  • It is vital that before traveling you have insurance that covers you for your activities, the hotel takes no responsibility for ill effects from altitude.
  • Whilst at the hotel it is imperative that you are fully hydrated. Plenty of liquid consumption is necessary at all times, ideally 4-5 litres daily. Symptoms of dehydration include lethargy, dizziness & low/coloured urine output. Thirst is often the last symptom noticed. Caffeine & alcohol are diuretics & should be avoided.
  • To help with altitude sickness you can ask your doctor to prescribe you Diamox pills. If in Peru you can buy Sorochi pills, which are sold over the counter in any pharmacy. These pills often only help to mask the symptoms of altitude sickness, they are not a cure. We prefer to see/feel the symptoms.
  • It is best to eat your main meal only after reaching the last highest point of your trek, blood going to your guts to aid the digestion process adversely effects cerebral capacity & physical output.
  • In the case of emergency we do have bottled oxygen at the hotel.

HIRE A LOCAL GUIDE SCHEME

Our local guide scheme aims to improve the lives of the local community, by giving an alternative means to support themselves & their family. The cost per day is S/. 80 with all proceeds going directly to your guide.

We have spent up to three weeks training each local guide from our village. They are not official guides, but are registered with ASAM (Asocacion de Servicios de Alta Montana). They are there to show you the routes & get help if required, but are NOT first aid trained, or able to help you stop twisting your ankle in the first place.

To hire a guide please let us now by email or upon your arrival at the lodge. We will make sure you are in good hands & organise everything accordingly.
